If you come here expecting the same type of property that you'd have with a new-build resort, that's just unreasonable and illogical. My husband and I both work in the construction industry and know how difficult those are to renovate. (The pancake was HUGE!) Just keep in mind, this is a 1700s property. They even were able to squeeze us in without a reservation. We have had breakfast, lunch, and dinner in our cottage a few times and dinner at the Inn once. I have yet to run into a mess that hasn't been cleaned up, and we saw at least three or four dogs this weekend. There are plenty of stations with doggy bags and trash recepticles. We got the pet package, so we were provided with towels specifically to clean them off so we didn't have to use our own, tons of dog treats, dog toys, and special cleaning wipes. The trails are so fun for them to explore, and there's access for them to swim in the stream. There is a kitchenette and dining table, so we were able to bring food that our picky kid would eat for the long weekend. But since we have a deaf/blind dog, we opted for something without stairs - the Whippet Cottage. It's gorgeous and perfect for a romantic weekend. I was nervous since this is our first trip with our two pandemic pups and a kindergartener. Despite having changed management since we first stayed here, the service is still above and beyond. My husband told me to drop whatever I was doing and book a weekend at Meander. We came back three or four times after that. We came here nine years ago on a whim when we decided to elope. and if they wait much longer they'll have a lot of trouble ever bringing it back. This place could be lovely - but it suffers from benign neglect. We tried walking on the walking trails - terribly overgrown!!!!!!!! Also - all the lovely brick pathways around the Inn are overgrown with weeds and no aligned (tripping hazard). I had the omelet (way overdone) and my husband had eggs - again overdone. For breakfast there was a menu - but the food was not very good. no music (if you sat outside - which we did) - and, the desserts are good - but made elsewhere. We had dinner - and it was good - but, a few comments: no bread is given or offered, nothing had any "spicing" - I'm not a "salt" person but even I had to add salt and pepper to everything. Tables are scratched and don't match, curtains are old and in terrible shape. The chairs are so old and worn the material is shiny on the arms. You have to leave the curtains open for the AC to work (it's a really small unit and does very little). The AC unit sits behind a curtain - so the AC just blows into the curtain. The faucet on the sink is about ready to fall off - wobbles all over. hmmmm and you can see where it broke off. The bathroom had a sign about not sitting on a bench in the shower if you were over 200 lbs - but clearly the bench is gone now. Our room was a "2" - the only nice thing in it were the bed linens - and the fact it was clean. Probably because this place is owned by several couples from Washington DC - absentee owners. Sadly, the ONLY reason I gave this place a 3 (vs a 2) is that the staff were lovely and helpful! Sadly the Inn itself has a lot of issues - and no one seems to be doing anything about any of them. That’s our view from a limited 5 minutes in the room and 10 minutes on the property. It is in need of major maintenance and upkeep. Note that the property does not look like the pictures on the website. If you are looking for a remote, rustic inn without electronic entertainment, this may be the place for you. We have stayed there many times and it never disappoints. We were able to find a room at the Suited at 249 in culpeper. Within five minutes it was clear that this was not what we expected and we returned the key and left. I am sure that was stated somewhere but I wasn’t aware there was no television. When I opened the fridge it smelled horrible. I walked the room and found it to be dated. They had not prepared one despite having placed a phone call on Saturday to ensure we would have dinner. I asked about our dinner basket and she was surprised. It was dark and had a slight smell to it. I found my way to the main house entry and waited for someone to show up. My wife was immediately turned off to the place. There was no signage telling you where to pair or check in. When we arrived the grounds were unkept and it was not inviting. They offered a dinner basket on Monday nights, as the kitchen is closed. The reviews were positive and the website looked great. We booked a trip to orange for our anniversary.
